Is Mirataz® for cats that need to lose weight or gain weight?
Mirataz is classified as a weight gain drug. Mirataz is the first and only FDA-approved transdermal medication for the management of weight loss in cats. Mirataz is a practical way to help cats gain weight without administration of oral medications and does not rely on your cat to eat to be medicated.
How much Mirataz is in a tube?
One tube will provide enough Mirataz for the labeled 14 days of dosing. There is overage in each tube to maintain the integrity of the product as packaged. The overage allows for unanticipated loss. Gloves should be worn when handling Mirataz.
Why do I have to wear gloves?
Per the label, you should wear disposable gloves when handling or applying Mirataz to prevent accidental topical exposure to mirtazapine, the active ingredient in Mirataz. Transdermal medications are designed to deliver medication through the skin and into the bloodstream. After applying Mirataz you should dispose of any used gloves and wash your hands with soap and water. Care should also be taken that people or other animals in the household do not come in contact with the treated cat for 2 hours because mirtazapine can be absorbed transdermally (through the skin) and orally.
What time of day should I apply Mirataz?
Mirataz may be applied any time of the day. If you have questions about the use of Mirataz in your pet, please contact your veterinarian.
How long will my cat be on Mirataz?
Mirataz is labeled for use once daily for 14 days. Please speak to your veterinarian about any questions for your individual cat.
Can Mirataz be given with other medications?
Mirataz should not be given in combination or within 14 days before or after treatment with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). There are no other medications contraindicated for use with Mirataz. If your veterinarian has prescribed Mirataz for your cat and you have questions, your veterinarian is your best source of information since they are most familiar with your pet’s health. Always tell your veterinarian of all medications your cat is receiving.
Where can I buy Mirataz?
Mirataz is available by prescription from your veterinarian.
